Doug Eifrid, founder

A passionate and knowledgeable instructor, Doug brings to his students an exceptional depth of skill and experience. He has practiced yoga and meditation since the early 80’s; in 1986 studying eastern philosophy and meditation at the Tao Institute in Munich, Germany.  In 1993 Doug was asked by his teacher, Atlanta yoga icon and first known yoga teacher, Martin Pierce, to be his apprentice and began teaching his own classes in 1994. In 1998 Doug traveled to India with Martin to study with his teacher, TKV Desikachar, at the Krishnamarcharya Yoga Mandarim in Chennai, India. After Martin died mountain climbing in India in 1999, Doug opened Yoga Samadhi. From 1996 to 2014 Doug and his partner, Kathy Kacena, led annual yoga retreats in Tulum, Mexico and Costa Rica. His style is sincere but  playful.

“Behind any serious yogi lies a beloved instructor, which makes picking the city’s best yoga instructor a little like picking best mom. That said, there’s something about Yoga Samadhi owner DOUG EIFRID that makes him stand out. At his sunny Inman Park studio, Eifrid inspires students to find harmony beyond their yoga practice. Just as important, though, is his attempt to make yoga more accessible by setting affordable prices and maintaining a low-key vibe. He and his 10 instructors teach 25 classes per week (including Eifrid’s packed all-levels class on Saturdays at noon), and they lead each class with humor and humility. Eifrid also hosts biannual yoga retreats in Tulum, Mexico, as well as the occasional couples yoga workshop, meditation class and free Friday-night kirtan, or chanting, session. Best of all, Eifrid’s workshops start at a mere $20…”
